How can I tell if my heart attack was caused by overexertion at work?

If you were asked to move something heavy at your job and immediately suffered a heart attack at work in New Jersey as a result, you would have no problem identifying the cause of your injury. However, many work-related heart attack cases are not so clear-cut.

Consider these examples of work-related heart attacks.

  • Machinery accidents. A victim may crash his car while driving home from work because he was suffering chest pain, or drive a forklift into a wall because he was incapacitated.
  • Falls.A construction worker suffers a fall from a platform because he was having chest pains.
  • Misdiagnosis. An employee is having trouble breathing while unloading cargo at work, but he assumes it’s just a cold coming on. Two days later, he has a heart attack at home.
  • Secondary injury. A worker breaks his foot and is told he will be out of work for at least six weeks. He worries how he will provide for his family, and is rushed to the ER with chest pains just days after his initial injury.
  • Loss of employment. The stress of losing your job can easily contribute to a heart attack, causing high blood pressure, shortness of breath, and a tightening feeling in your chest.

These victims may easily be denied their rightful New Jersey worker’s compensation benefits because it is hard to prove their injury was work-related—or because they don’t know they are even eligible for these payments.

The dedicated law team at Manfred F. Ricciardelli, Jr. can tell you what you are owed and help you get the payments you deserve for your medical bills and loss of income—and we charge nothing for our services unless we win your case.
