Police are still investigating the cause of a Manchester NJ car accident that closed Route 70 between Manchester Boulevard and Beckerville Road for four hours on October 31, 2013.
The multi-vehicle crash on Route 70 in Manchester occurred shortly before 12:42 p.m. According to police Capt. Lisa Parker, a westbound 1995 Honda Civic crossed the center line of the highway and struck a 2010 Subaru Forester head-on near mile marker 41.5. The accident caused two additional vehicles—a westbound 2004 Ford E350 Van and an eastbound 2008 Buick Lucerne—to become drawn into the crash.
The Civic’s driver, 19-year-old Kyriph Wallace of Lakewood, suffered leg fractures and multiple internal injuries. He was flown via medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. 74-year-old Frank Dreifus, who had been driving the Subaru, was also flown to Jersey Shore with a head injury and a fractured vertebrate.
Van driver Elma Evans, 49, sustained minor injuries including head and knee pain. She and 70-year-old David Rockhill, who was driving the Lucerne and also suffered minor injuries, were taken by ambulance to Community Medical Center in Toms River. The two passengers in Rockhill’s vehicle declined medical attention at the scene.
Capt. Parker has said that all drivers involved in the accident were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, and that there were multiple air-bag deployments in at least three of the vehicles.
Investigation into the accident is being performed by multiple Ocean County Prosecutors Office departments, including the Vehicular Homicide Unit, the High Tech Crimes Unit, and the Sheriff’s Department Criminalistics Investigations Unit, with additional assistance from members of the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Unit.
