The driver of a pickup truck who caused a Lawrence township car accident is still in critical condition, say New Jersey State Police.
According to state police spokesman Lt. Steve Jones, the accident took place shortly before 1:00 p.m. on August 27, 2013. Cedarville resident Albert Mooney, 32, was traveling down Cedarville Road when he attempted to pass another vehicle near the Buckshutem Road intersection.
SFC Gregory Williams, spokesman for the New Jersey State Police, says that Mooney apparently lost control of his Ford pickup truck and swerved off the roadway. The truck struck a sign, rolled into a ditch and overturned, finally coming to rest upon hitting a utility pole at the side of the road.
First responders to the scene included the Cedarville Fire Department, Lawrence Emergency Management Services and Fatal Accident Investigation Unit. The road was shut down near the Millville Airport for several hours to allow emergency crews access to the scene.
Mooney was extracted from his vehicle and flown out via the Millville Airport to Cooper Medical Center in Camden. According to Williams, Mooney was listed in critical condition upon his arrival at the hospital and that his status had not changed. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no other persons were reported injured in the incident.
Authorities reported that the utility pole was severed as a result of the extreme force of the crash.
New Jersey State Police said that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
