A Hudson County NJ car crash has left three people dead and two others in serious condition after an early-morning crash on August 10.
The accident took place in North Bergen on eastbound Route 3, at the intersection with I-495 on the way to the Lincoln Tunnel.
According to local police, five people were riding in the 2008 Dodge Charger when the vehicle left the roadway shortly before 4 a.m. Emergency crews found four of the accident victims outside the vehicle, likely ejected in the crash.
While police have not released the names of those who died in the wreck, they have said that all of the passengers were men between the ages of 19 and 30.
Police said that the survivors of the crash, 23-year-old Michael Martinez of Weehawken and 18-year-old Roman Rossario, were receiving treatment at Jersey City Medical Center. Both are expected to recover.
A local motorist told the media that there is a sharp turn in the road near the area where the accident took place, which is also under construction.
“It’s very sharp, and then at one point where it turns, another road comes down… and they all merge together,” Jackie Friedmann said. “So not only are you making this sharp turn, but you’re also merging. I’m not surprised. That’s pretty scary.”
Route 3 was shut down for several hours after the crash to allow emergency crews access to the accident site.
While the accident remains under investigation, police have said that speed may have been a factor in the crash. They are awaiting the results of toxicology test to rule out drug and alcohol use.
Our attorneys and staff wish to extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families as we keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
